When I visited Emily in Los Angeles, I was planning to work on classical music (and boy did I have a sheaf). Our plans changed as these things often do, and instead of singing my pre-established repertory, I ended up writing whole new songs with her pianist.
Oops.
The following song is the only finished original track we’ve got so far (albeit in need of some cuts at the beginning), but there are more in the works. Oleg Sarkisov is the composer and pianist, and Megan Elizabeth Morris (that one’s me!) wrote the words and melody. Emily Rose Morris, my incredibly patient and sweet sister, helped us out around the edges. (Thanks, Em.)
Besides being the only finished original track so far, this song has the distinction of having been composed and recorded in its final version in less than a day and a half — inside a schedule packed with too many other things than practicing and recording. It was fast. I don’t have a lot of experience writing music, so this was positively thrilling for me.
Wanna listen? It sure ain’t opera!
